I have never used this phrase, but it’s what I have been taught. This is a phrase that we all hear, but most of us never truly understand. I’m not talking about folding the napkin or folding the laundry (those were made up, right?). I’m talking about folding your hands and then putting them flat.
I think I remember this one, I just can’t remember exactly why it was my teacher was talking about. I think this is what I need to do when I get home if I ever get home, because I am going to fold my hands flat.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually heard this phrase but I do know that it is a phrase that I heard, perhaps it was the teacher who taught it to me, or maybe I just happened to be listening to my mother use it at this specific moment in time. Whatever the reason was, I love knowing that I have this phrase in my arsenal; I love knowing that I can use it when I need to.
I’ve been trying to explain it for a while now but I finally got it! I love that I can fold my hands flat and that its not just a gesture. That, along with my two hands not being so wide as they have been during the day, I love my hands in general and that I can actually do something with them. I think that what I am saying is that I don’t have to be so rigid, that I can be flexible with my body.
I think we can all agree that the ability to fold your arms is a very useful skill. When you have to do something that requires your arms to be close to your body, its a lot harder to do unless you are a pro. I think that the ability to fold your arms is one of the more important skills you can develop for yourself.
Fold your arms. That’s it. That’s all you do. If you’re a couch potato, if you are constantly bending over to pick up your glasses, if you do it every day, you will eventually get it. And we all know how long it takes to get it. But if you keep using your arms, you are bound to keep getting it. If you keep using your arms, you will always end up with a few extra pounds.
The reason for this is that you are bound to use them to look over your shoulder. If you look over your shoulder every time you open your mouth, you will not be able to sit at a table and eat a meal with a nice view of the sky. Your arms will become the eyes of your entire life, and they will eventually become more than just a pair of legs.
The problem is that you are going to continue to get it because you are using them to look over your shoulder. If you open your mouth and start talking to someone, you’re going to get a smiley face. If you start talking to someone, you are bound to get a smiley face. You never know when you might be about to say a word that is going to become a problem. You might just be about to get a smiley face in the middle of a big speech.
I think this is why we always have trouble when people try to fold. The problem is we believe that we already know what we are talking to. We don’t. It is a matter of context.
You see, the first time I heard the phrase “never fold” it was probably in a movie. My first thought was, “You’re about to fold.” Then it clicked that that was all I had to do.
